Tommy Fleetwood produced a stunning bogey-free 64 to seize the halfway lead at the DP World India Championship, while Rory McIlroy mounted a late charge to keep himself in contention heading into the weekend.
Fleetwood’s eight-under round at Delhi Golf Club featured eight birdies and flawless ball striking, giving the Englishman a one-shot lead over former Open champions Shane Lowry and Brian Harman at 12-under. Lowry, the overnight leader and Fleetwood’s playing partner, carded a steady 69 with four birdies and a bogey, while Harman surged with a 65 to join him at 11-under.
“I hit it in the fairway a lot and gave myself some chances with irons,” Fleetwood said. “It’s easy talking about how many things you did well when you shot eight under, but it was a really good round of golf.”
Fleetwood, currently ranked world No. 5, is chasing his eighth DP World Tour title after winning the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup in August.
McIlroy, meanwhile, endured a rocky start and was 10 shots off the lead after 12 holes, mixing two birdies with three bogeys. But the world No. 2 turned it around with four birdies in his last six holes, posting his second consecutive 69 to finish the day at six-under — alongside Ryder Cup teammate Viktor Hovland.
Japan’s Keita Nakajima remains firmly in contention at 10-under following rounds of 65 and 69. Ben Griffin of the U.S., playing in the marquee group with McIlroy and Hovland, carded another 68 to sit four shots behind Fleetwood.
India’s Shubhankar Sharma delighted the home crowd with a bogey-free 66 to move to four-under, emerging as the top local performer after two rounds.
With a packed leaderboard and McIlroy’s momentum building, the weekend promises a thrilling finish in Delhi.
