Fix It, Don’t Toss It: Brampton Repair Café Teaches Free DIY Repairs

Brampton residents have a unique opportunity to learn how to fix their broken household items for free—while helping keep waste out of landfills—at the Brampton Library’s upcoming Repair Café.

The event takes place on Wednesday, July 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Brampton Library Four Corners Branch (65 Queen Street East). Visitors can bring a wide range of broken items, from bicycles and tools to clothing, jewelry, small electronics, toys, and even guitars. Experienced volunteer fixers will be on hand to guide attendees through the repair process.

In addition to hands-on help, the Repair Café also offers knife and tool sharpening, computer and appliance troubleshooting, and tech refurbishment. Broken or outdated laptops and computers will be restored and donated to local residents in need.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Brampton Library, Sheridan College: Mission Zero, and the community group Let’s Get Together, all working together to promote sustainability and skill-sharing.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring e-waste, metal scraps, batteries, and printer cartridges for safe disposal. Even those without items to repair are welcome to attend, observe the process, network with fixers, or learn how to become a volunteer.

“Our goal is simple—repair, reuse, and recycle to benefit the community and the environment,” said the Brampton Library in a statement. “Come join us and see what can be saved with just a little fixing.”
