A tragic shooting incident unfolded at an adult education centre in Örebro, Sweden, on Tuesday, leaving five people shot, according to Swedish police. Authorities are currently investigating the attack, which took place at Campus Risbergska, an educational institution serving students over the age of 20.
The Swedish news agency TT has reported that the suspected perpetrator died by suicide, though this has yet to be officially confirmed by police. A press conference has been scheduled for 14:30 GMT, where further details are expected to be released.
The extent of the victims’ injuries remains unclear, and police have not confirmed whether the shooter is counted among the five injured. However, authorities have stated that no officers were shot during the incident.
Following the attack, a heavy police presence was observed at the school, with students and staff sheltering in nearby buildings as authorities worked to secure the area. Portions of Campus Risbergska were subsequently evacuated as part of the police response.
Video footage from the scene captured multiple emergency vehicles, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing operation. The shooting occurred on the outskirts of Örebro, a city approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) west of Stockholm.
Sweden’s Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer addressed the severity of the situation, stating, “The reports of violence in Örebro are very serious. The police are on site and the operation is in full swing.”
During a separate news conference, Mats Persson, Minister for Employment and Integration, reassured the public that the Swedish government is closely monitoring the situation and remains in direct communication with law enforcement authorities.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined. Campus Risbergska offers a variety of educational programs, including primary and upper secondary school courses, Swedish language instruction for immigrants, vocational training, and programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
As authorities continue their investigation, residents of Örebro and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and follow official updates from Swedish law enforcement.
