In a significant move to bolster the production of Canadian goods and create high-quality employment opportunities, the Government of Canada has announced an investment exceeding $1.7 million in Italpasta Limited. This strategic funding was unveiled today by the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), in the presence of esteemed colleagues and community members.
Italpasta Limited, a family-owned business that has been a staple in the Brampton community since 1989, is renowned for its commitment to preserving Italian culinary traditions while utilizing Canadian-grown wheat. This investment will enable Italpasta to triple its production capacity by replacing outdated machinery with a cutting-edge production line. The enhancement is expected to meet the surging demand for its products across North America while simultaneously creating ten new skilled jobs.
The modernization of Italpasta’s manufacturing processes is projected to reduce energy consumption and the company’s carbon footprint by 20 percent, aligning with the government’s objectives for clean growth outcomes.
Minister Tassi expressed that this investment underscores the government’s dedication to supporting Canadian businesses and industries as they produce quality made-in-Canada products and contribute to the nation’s economic growth. Parliamentary Secretary Maninder Sidhu echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive impact on both the Brampton region and Canada’s food manufacturing industry, stating, “This announcement is good news for both the Brampton region and Canada’s food manufacturing industry as it will support a leading business in our community while strengthening local supply chains and increasing production of made-in-Canada food products.”
Ruby Sahota, MP for Brampton North, stated, “This investment in Italpasta Limited is a testament to our government’s commitment to fostering a robust made-in-Canada economy. Italpasta is a shining example of the entrepreneurial spirit in Brampton, and with this support, they are set to become a beacon of innovation and quality in the Canadian food sector. Our investment today is not just in Italpasta, but in every Brampton resident who will benefit from the economic growth and job creation that comes with it.”
Joe Vitale, Founder and President of Italpasta Ltd., conveyed profound gratitude for the government’s support, emphasizing that the funding empowers the company to address the escalating demand for their products and reaffirms their role in championing locally crafted, premium-quality, affordable products.
Shafqat Ali, MP for Brampton Centre, also praised the investment, saying, “Investing in Italpasta is investing in our community’s future. This funding will not only help grow a local business but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Brampton.”
This investment is part of a broader initiative by FedDev Ontario, which has invested over $40 million in more than 100 projects in Brampton since 2015, estimated to have created and maintained over 1,300 jobs. It reflects the government’s commitment to making Brampton the made-in-Canada capital of the nation.
