TORONTO — A viral screenshot circulating on social media claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump labeled the Toronto Blue Jays “un-American” and vowed to bar them from the White House has been confirmed as fake.
The image, styled to look like a Truth Social post, suggested that Trump accused the Jays of attempting to “steal” the World Series and declared they would not be welcomed at the White House. The post, written in all-caps, was widely shared across Threads, Facebook, Instagram, and X, where many users questioned its authenticity.
The White House confirmed to The Canadian Press that Trump has not posted any remarks about the Blue Jays. A review of Trump’s Truth Social account and archived web records also showed no trace of the alleged post.
The image first appeared on Sept. 28 from a satirical Nova Scotia-based humour account, which has previously created edited screenshots and parody messages. The account is known for producing memes and fabricated alerts, often designed to go viral.
While Trump’s genuine Truth Social posts frequently feature emphatic capital letters and controversial statements — including a past suggestion that Canada should become “the cherished 51st state of the United States” — the Blue Jays post is not among them.
This latest viral hoax highlights the ease with which parody content can be mistaken for reality, particularly given the President’s history of provocative online remarks. Fact-checkers caution Canadians and Americans alike to verify screenshots before sharing them further.
The Toronto Blue Jays recently clinched their first American League East Division title since 2015 with a win over the Tampa Bay Rays, sparking excitement among Canadian fans — but no controversy from the U.S. President.
