Eric Trump Shares Mock Post of Donald Trump ‘Buying’ Canada on Amazon, Sparks Controversy

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his allies continue to court controversy with bold statements and actions concerning Canada.

Eric Trump, the president-elect’s son, recently shared a doctored image on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), depicting Donald Trump “purchasing” Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal on Amazon. The post, intended as a joke, comes amid escalating rhetoric from the incoming Trump administration.

Since his election victory in November, Trump has repeatedly referred to Canada as the “51st state” and called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the “governor” of Canada on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump has also proposed imposing 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods, a move that has alarmed leaders at both the federal and provincial levels. The threats have sparked urgent discussions about how best to navigate the challenges posed by the incoming U.S. administration.

In response, the Trudeau government has announced a $1.3 billion spending package over six years aimed at addressing border security concerns and countering Trump’s narrative around the flow of illegal drugs into the U.S.

The rhetoric and proposed policies from the Trump camp have heightened tensions between the two countries, with Canadian officials working to mitigate potential economic and political fallout.

As Trump prepares to take office in January, the Trudeau government faces mounting pressure to safeguard Canada’s interests while addressing the uncertainties surrounding its relationship with its largest trading partner.
