Durham Police Seek Two Suspects in Wallet Theft Targeting Senior at Whitby Grocery Store

Durham Regional Police are searching for two suspects involved in the theft of a senior’s wallet at a FreshCo grocery store in Whitby last week.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 7 near Brock Street South and Dunlop Street East.

According to police, the senior victim was leaving the store when a male suspect approached and dropped a case of soda. While the victim assisted him in picking it up, a female suspect allegedly took the opportunity to steal the victim’s wallet from her purse.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Hyundai Santa Fe with no license plate.

Police describe the suspects as follows:

  • Male suspect: Between 30 and 40 years old, heavy build, dark facial hair, wearing a long black jacket and white running shoes.
  • Female suspect: Between 30 and 40 years old, heavy build, wearing a long black jacket and a grey scarf.

The suspects allegedly used the victim’s stolen card to make purchases. On Tuesday, police released a photo of the suspects and the vehicle.
