Durham Police Arrest Man Linked to Multiple Violent Incidents Targeting Women

A 27-year-old man from Scugog has been charged with sexual assault and robbery following a series of violent incidents in Ajax that targeted women, according to Durham Regional Police.

Seth Mantifel faces multiple charges, including sexual assault and two counts of robbery, after police linked him to a string of disturbing events that unfolded between May 29 and June 1. The first reported incident occurred near Harwood Avenue and Clements Road, where a woman was allegedly touched inappropriately by an unknown man. She reported the encounter to police several hours later.

The next day, a second woman was walking through a plaza on Harwood Avenue when she was confronted by a man who attempted to take her backpack. Despite the aggression, she managed to escape and seek help from a nearby bystander, prompting the suspect to flee on foot.

On Saturday morning, a third woman was walking near 75 Bayly Street when a man allegedly grabbed her backpack, causing her to fall. Her screams drew the attention of bystanders, who came to her aid as the suspect fled once again.

Durham police investigators were able to connect the three incidents and arrested Mantifel on June 4 without incident. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
