Diwali Fireworks Ban in Brampton: Residents Could Face Penalties Up to $100,000

As Diwali approaches, the City of Brampton is reminding residents that setting off personal fireworks is prohibited and could result in fines as high as $100,000.

Diwali, the annual festival of lights, falls on October 31 this year and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists across the globe, often with fireworks. However, Brampton implemented a ban on personal fireworks following an incident during Diwali 2022, which led to over 1,000 complaints.

The city’s bylaw prohibits the use, sale, display, purchase, and possession of any fireworks or explosives within Brampton. Penalties range from $500 to $1,000, but fines can soar to $100,000 if a court summons is issued. Sparklers remain permitted under the bylaw.

Residents are encouraged to attend the city-sponsored fireworks display on November 1 at Sesquicentennial Park (11333 Bramalea Rd). The free family event will feature performances by local and international artists, including Gurpreet Maan, G. Sidhu, Chani Nattan, and Inderpal Moga. The Nachdi Jawani Bhangra Team, Taaj Entertainment, and DJ Prince will also take the stage. The night will conclude with Brampton’s largest fireworks show at 7:30 PM.
