Vehicle theft continues to surge in Mississauga and Brampton, with a staggering 391 cases reported in just 31 days. Between June 26 and July 27, Peel Regional Police received reports of 184 vehicles stolen in Mississauga and 206 in Brampton. One additional case occurred in Burlington but fell under Peel Police’s jurisdiction.
Of the 391 stolen vehicles, only seven cases have been solved so far. Another 367 remain under active investigation, while 16 have been closed as unsolved. The breakdown includes 276 cars, 83 trucks, 25 motorcycles, and seven vehicles categorized as “others.”
One of the most affected areas in the region is Great Lakes Drive, where more than 20 vehicles were stolen in the past month, marking it as a major theft hotspot. The rise in crime has left residents increasingly alarmed, with several recent incidents drawing attention — including a dinner-hour carjacking, partial school lockdowns after a vehicle theft nearby, and home invasions linked to car thefts.
Peel Police are urging residents to take additional precautions as thieves continue to target vehicles from residential driveways. Tips include parking in locked garages where possible, using steering wheel locks for visible deterrence, and installing data port locks to prevent thieves from accessing and reprogramming key systems. Authorities also recommend investing in high-quality video surveillance systems that work well in both day and night conditions, ensuring residents can quickly access and review footage in the event of a crime.
The data reflects a troubling pattern in the region, and police continue to monitor the situation while encouraging community awareness and vigilance.
