Coldplay’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai, scheduled for January 2025, have sparked widespread outrage among fans due to ticket resales reaching exorbitant prices. Originally sold on BookMyShow for ₹2,500 to ₹12,000, tickets were resold for as much as ₹900,000 on secondary platforms. Over 10 million people competed for the 180,000 available tickets, leading to crashes and long digital queues. Fans have called for stricter regulations to prevent ticket scalping, while BookMyShow denied any involvement with resellers.
This issue has sparked debates on ticket scalping, with industry experts highlighting similar instances from international markets. The growing demand for live music performances in India, combined with a limited number of venues, is contributing to the rising prices. Music business veteran Brian Tellis remarked, “Concerts are now a blend of cultural participation and bragging rights, driven by the massive demand and targeted marketing.”
Despite concerns about pricing and venue management, Coldplay remains one of the most anticipated performances, with many fans holding on to their tickets. The event further cements India’s growing live music scene, but experts note that improvements in venue standards and ticketing regulations are still needed to match global expectations.
