The City of Brampton is set to honour the achievements and contributions of women in the community with a series of events for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” encourages residents to take meaningful steps toward gender equity through advocacy, mentorship, and community engagement.
Residents are invited to a special panel discussion at The Rose featuring influential women from business, arts, public service, and social justice. Hosted by Kathleen Douglass and Angel Massey-Singh, co-chairs of the Brampton Women’s Advisory Committee, the event will feature panelists including:
- Retired Constable Joy Brown, Peel Regional Police, Human Trafficking & Exploitation Champion
- Jyoti Malik, Owner, Grillies Restaurant
- Aman Kainth, Division Chief, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services
- Sasha Leigh Henry, Canadian writer, director, producer, and BAO ambassador

Attendees can also explore an artist market, shop from women-owned businesses, and connect with local advocacy and empowerment groups while enjoying complimentary refreshments from Nourish & Fulfill, a Brampton-based women-run business.

Following the panel, JUNO Award-winning Canadian rock artist Bif Naked will perform live at The Rose at 8 PM. Please note that this concert is a separate ticketed event. Tickets can be purchased through Brampton On Stage.
Brampton’s Commitment to Gender Equity
The City of Brampton continues to advance gender equity through initiatives like the Brampton Women Empowerment Network (WEN) and the Brampton Women’s Advisory Committee.
🔹 Brampton Women Empowerment Network (WEN), established in December 2022, supports women working at the City by:
- Encouraging equality and leadership empowerment
- Identifying career development and mentorship opportunities
- Building professional networks
- Hosting events and activities that support gender equity
🔹 Brampton Women’s Advisory Committee provides a platform for women to lead, grow, and succeed, modeled after advisory committees in Edmonton and Halifax.
