City of Brampton Opens State-of-the-Art ASE Processing Centre to Tackle Speeding

The City of Brampton proudly announced the official opening of its new Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Processing Centre today, marking a major advancement in road safety both locally and across Ontario. Located at 175 Sandalwood Parkway W., the new centre will play a pivotal role in ensuring safer streets for all Brampton residents and visitors.

The investment in this state-of-the-art facility underscores Brampton’s commitment to upholding local traffic by-laws and deterring speeding, enhancing the city’s capacity to process ASE images and expedite infraction processing. With 42 new staff members, including 30 Enforcement Officers, the centre will be a key resource in handling the growing volume of traffic violations, supporting the expansion of the ASE program.

“This new Automated Speed Enforcement Processing Centre is a game-changer for Brampton and reinforces our leadership in road safety across Ontario. The centre not only increases our enforcement capabilities but reflects our deep commitment to protecting residents and creating safer streets. We are proud to lead the province in this vital initiative,” said Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton.

In July 2024, the City installed 20 additional ASE cameras, bringing the current total to 70 across Brampton’s Community Safety Zones. By the end of the year, that number will rise to 100, with 85 more cameras planned for installation by the end of summer 2025. Partnering with Jenoptik Smart Mobility Solutions, Brampton is on track to deliver the fastest ASE program deployment in Jenoptik’s global history. This ambitious program rollout will make Brampton’s streets safer by addressing excessive speeding in high-risk zones.

Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 5 and Chair of Legislative Services, added: “Brampton is taking bold steps to ensure road safety for all users. By expanding our ability to process ASE images and opening our own processing centre, we are safeguarding our streets and prioritizing the well-being of the community.”

The ASE Processing Centre will also offer services to other municipalities across Ontario, positioning Brampton as a leader in automated speed enforcement. Geoff Wilkinson, Executive Director of the Ontario Traffic Council, praised Brampton’s efforts: “The new processing centre offers flexibility in addressing speeding, changing driver behaviour, and making Brampton roads increasingly safer.”

Brampton’s collaboration with Jenoptik Smart Mobility Solutions has been instrumental in achieving these milestones. Kristina McMaster, Director of Operations Canada at Jenoptik, remarked: “We are proud to partner with Brampton in delivering positive road safety outcomes. As the City extends processing services to other municipalities, we look forward to making roads safer across Ontario.”

Paul Vicente, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 5, emphasized the importance of the ASE initiative: “The opening of this new ASE Processing Centre highlights Brampton’s forward-thinking approach to road safety. By investing in cutting-edge technology and expanding our capabilities, we are addressing a pressing issue in our communities—speeding. This centre represents our dedication to making Brampton’s streets safer for everyone, especially the most vulnerable road users.”

With a planned 185 ASE cameras deployed by the summer of 2025, Brampton is ensuring a rapid response to the issue of speeding. The ASE program has already shown success, with data indicating a 6.5 km/h reduction in vehicle speeds at all camera sites. The City’s efforts to curb speeding and dangerous driving are part of a broader initiative, which includes traffic calming measures like the Neighbourhood Speed Pilot program and the implementation of 187 Community Safety Zones.

The opening of the ASE Processing Centre demonstrates Brampton’s unwavering commitment to road safety and reflects a holistic approach to creating a safer environment for all road users, reinforcing the City’s position as a leader in traffic enforcement and community well-being.
