Brampton, ON — In response to a Heat Warning issued by Peel Public Health beginning Sunday, June 22, 2025, the City of Brampton has activated a series of heat relief measures to help residents stay safe and cool during the ongoing extreme temperatures.
All publicly accessible city buildings—including City Hall, community centres, and libraries—are open to the public during regular hours as designated heat relief locations. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these air-conditioned spaces.
The City’s 18 splash pads are operational daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting. Chinguacousy Park’s wading pool is currently open on weekends from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and will extend its hours to daily operations from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM starting June 30. Residents can check updates at brampton.ca/splash before visiting, as hours may be affected by rain or cooler temperatures.
Health officials urge residents to restrict outdoor activities, avoid direct sun exposure, drink plenty of water, and remain in cool or shaded spaces. Seniors, young children, and people with pre-existing health conditions are particularly vulnerable, and community members are encouraged to check in on at-risk individuals.
Pet owners are reminded to keep pets indoors, limit walks to cooler hours, provide ample fresh water, and never leave animals or children unattended in vehicles. A simple rule: if the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for paws.
Water safety is also a priority during the heat wave. Parents are advised to keep children within arm’s reach near water, use life jackets for young children, and choose lifeguard-supervised locations for swimming. Backyard pools should be fully fenced, and unused wading pools and buckets should be emptied to prevent accidents.
The City continues to monitor weather conditions and will provide updates as necessary. For more information on how to stay safe during extreme heat, visit brampton.ca/prepared or peelregion.ca.
