City of Brampton Launches Public Consultation on Tourism Municipal Services Corporation to Boost Local Economy

Brampton Sign

The City of Brampton is excited to announce the launch of a public consultation process to gather community input on the creation of a Tourism Municipal Services Corporation (MSC). This innovative proposal, approved by Brampton City Council on April 13, 2023, aims to enhance the city’s tourism sector and drive economic growth by leveraging the Province of Ontario’s Transient Accommodation Tax framework.

The initiative stems from the introduction of a four percent Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT), which enables municipalities to allocate funds for tourism development. Under the plan, the Tourism MSC will manage 50 percent of MAT revenue—projected to generate significant resources—to position Brampton as a premier destination for visitors, businesses, and events.

What is the Tourism MSC?
The Tourism MSC will act as Brampton’s dedicated tourism entity, partnering with the City to elevate its profile and stimulate economic activity. The corporation will focus on four strategic pillars:

Engagement: Collaborating with tourism stakeholders to ensure MAT funds address industry needs and priorities.
Promotion: Researching and executing marketing campaigns to spotlight Brampton’s attractions and draw visitors.
Development: Enhancing tourism products and infrastructure to enrich the visitor experience.
Attraction: Securing high-impact business, sports, and cultural events to boost hotel stays and local spending.
Leadership Voices Support
City leaders are championing the initiative and urging residents to participate in shaping its future.

Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized the economic potential: “The Tourism MSC is a game-changer for Brampton. By turning hotel stays into jobs and excitement, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant city. This is a chance for every resident to share their vision and help us make it a resounding success.”

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos (Wards 1 & 5) highlighted the collaborative spirit: “Tourism is Brampton’s untapped goldmine, and the MSC lets us unlock it together. I’m thrilled to see our community’s ideas fuel campaigns and events that put us on the map—your feedback is the key.”

Regional Councillor Paul Vicente (Wards 1 & 5) underscored the practical benefits: “This is about smart policy delivering real results—more jobs, more vibrancy, more reasons to choose Brampton. The MSC’s success hinges on public input, so let’s build it right from the start.”

Public Consultation Details
The City invites residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the comprehensive Business Case for the Tourism MSC and provide feedback by March 21, 2025. The Business Case outlines the MSC’s structure, goals, and projected impacts, offering a clear roadmap for this transformative step.

A Vision for Brampton’s Future
The Tourism MSC aligns with Brampton’s ongoing commitment to innovation and growth. By establishing a dedicated entity to manage MAT funds, the City aims to amplify its appeal, support local businesses, and create new opportunities for residents. With community input, the MSC can become a cornerstone of Brampton’s economic strategy, driving benefits for years to come.

“We’re at a pivotal moment,” said Mayor Brown. “Together, we can make Brampton a destination that shines—not just for visitors, but for all of us who call it home.”

The City encourages all interested parties to participate before the March 21 deadline. For more information or to get involved, visit www.brampton.ca/letsconnect or contact tourism@brampton.ca.
