The City of Brampton has launched a comprehensive new online Rental Hub, designed to serve as a one-stop resource for tenants, landlords, and students seeking information on housing rules, rental licensing, reporting unlicensed rentals, and building additional rental units.
The new Rental Hub provides clear, accessible information on tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities, as well as resources for students seeking off-campus housing support. City officials say the goal is to ensure Brampton’s growing rental market remains safe, well-regulated, and fair for all residents.
“Whether you’re a tenant or landlord, knowing your rights and responsibilities helps ensure a safe, respectful, and informed rental experience,” the City of Brampton said in a statement.
For years, the city has been introducing stronger safeguards in the rental market, including a landlord licensing program and revised regulations for Additional Rental Units (ARUs). Landlords found in violation of city bylaws can face fines of up to $1,000 for overcrowding or failing inspections.
Residential Rental Licensing Pilot Program Expanded
The city’s Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) Pilot Program has been expanded to cover more areas of Brampton. Starting in 2026, landlords in every ward except 6, 9, and 10 will be required to register, with wards 2 and 8 being added to the program.
The pilot program has also been extended through the end of 2028, allowing the city more time to implement and refine its licensing measures. Recent changes have lowered insurance requirements, introduced new licence categories, and expanded the program’s coverage to nearly the entire city.
