January marks Tamil Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Tamil communities across Canada. With Brampton being home to a vibrant Tamil diaspora, the City proudly recognizes the Tamil community’s significant social, cultural, and economic impact.
Today also signifies the start of Thai Pongal, a multi-day Hindu festival celebrated by Tamils worldwide. This joyous occasion marks the beginning of the Tamil month of Thai and symbolizes prosperity, gratitude, and the arrival of a new season.
As part of Tamil Heritage Month, the City of Brampton invites residents to a special celebration on January 25, 2025. Organized in collaboration with the Brampton Tamil Association and Brampton Tamil Seniors Association, and generously sponsored by Algoma University, this event will feature a community flag-raising ceremony at Ken Whillans Square, followed by a reception in the City Hall Atrium showcasing Tamil culture through live music, dance performances, and traditional cuisine.
