CIBC Run for the Cure Brings Road Closures and Pink Pride to Downtown Toronto

Toronto — Thousands of participants are taking part in the annual CIBC Run for the Cure in downtown Toronto today, bringing a sea of pink to the University of Toronto’s St. George campus — and several road closures in the surrounding area.

The volunteer-led fundraising event, now in its 33rd year, supports the Canadian Cancer Society’s efforts for breast cancer research. Toronto’s edition features one-kilometre and five-kilometre walk/run routes, both starting at 10 a.m. from the south side of King’s College Circle. The event site opened earlier at 8 a.m., with festivities and warm-up activities kicking off the day.

Participants in the five-kilometre race will head south on Spadina Avenue toward Queen Street West before looping back north to Bloor Street, while the one-kilometre race will travel north on St. George Street to Hoskin Avenue. Both routes finish at King’s College Circle.

Toronto Police have advised motorists to expect traffic delays throughout the morning and early afternoon, as multiple streets in the downtown core will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The affected roads include:

  • College Street between McCaul Street and Robert Street
  • Spadina Avenue between Bloor Street West and Queen Street West
  • St. George Street between Sussex Avenue and Cecil Street
  • Ursula Franklin Street between Spadina Avenue and St. George Street
  • Galbraith Road between St. George Street and King’s College Circle
  • Hoskin Avenue between St. George Street and Queen’s Park Crescent West
  • Dundas Street West between Kensington Avenue and Spadina Avenue

The event will take place rain or shine, and attendees are encouraged to use public transit to avoid congestion in the area.

The CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, care, and support.
