Canadian Woman Charged After Illegally Entering U.S. and Assaulting Border Agent

A Canadian woman has been charged in the United States after allegedly crossing illegally into Washington state and kicking a U.S. border agent in the face.

According to court documents cited by The Canadian Press, the woman faces one count of assault on a federal officer and one count of improper entry following the incident Tuesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation alleges she was initially denied entry at the Peace Arch border crossing south of Surrey, B.C., after officers found a marijuana vape pen. She was later seen walking through the buffer zone at Peace Arch State Park, an area where visitors from both countries can meet.

Border agents say the woman shouted obscenities, resisted arrest and kicked a female supervisor in the face. Investigators said she told them she was trying to meet her fiancé to retrieve their dog and did not intend to strike anyone.

She is scheduled to return to court later this month.
