Peel Regional Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a third suspect wanted in connection with the brutal assault and subsequent death of 24-year-old Gurvinder Nath, an international student and food delivery driver who was attacked in Mississauga in July 2023.
On Tuesday, police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Devaunte Thompson of Caledon, Ont., who is now wanted on a charge of second-degree murder. Investigators allege that Thompson was involved in a targeted robbery that led to Nath’s fatal injuries.
The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on July 9, 2023, when Nath was delivering pizza to a Mississauga residence. Authorities believe the food order was deliberately placed to lure Nath to the location. Upon arrival, he was “violently assaulted” and robbed of his vehicle. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving Nath critically injured.
Bystanders rushed to Nath’s aid and contacted emergency services. He was transported to a trauma centre but succumbed to his injuries five days later, on July 14.
Two other suspects, including a youth, were previously arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the case. Nath’s stolen vehicle was recovered abandoned less than five kilometres from the attack site shortly after the assault.
Originally from India, Nath arrived in Canada in July 2021 to pursue his education and was preparing for the final semester of his business program. Friends and family described him as ambitious, with hopes of starting his own business.
Police describe Thompson as Black, six feet tall, with a thin build, medium complexion, and brown eyes. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Peel police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The investigation remains ongoing.
