Canada has updated its travel advisories for the United States and several other countries, providing guidance for travelers on its Travel Advice and Advisories page. The updates, based on trends, incidents, and global events, aim to help travelers make informed decisions and stay safe abroad.
In the United States, classified as level green (normal security precautions), recent demonstrations in Los Angeles and other major cities prompted an advisory update. Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests have occurred since June 6, with additional security forces deployed and a curfew in effect in downtown Los Angeles from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Travelers are advised to avoid demonstrations, follow local authorities’ instructions, including curfews, and monitor local media for updates.
Ecuador faces high crime levels, with a state of emergency in provinces like Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena, El Oro, Sucumbíos, and the Metropolitan District of Quito due to gang violence. Violent crime, including drug trafficking and street gang activity, is widespread, though the Galápagos Islands remain relatively safe, requiring normal precautions.
Egypt’s advisory highlights an unpredictable security situation and terrorism risks, particularly in the Sinai region, where movement restrictions may be imposed suddenly due to events in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Terrorist attacks, which can occur without warning, are a concern nationwide, including in Cairo and popular tourist destinations.
In Colombia, high crime rates and recent explosions in Valle del Cauca and Cauca, including Cali, have led to casualties and protests. Travelers should stay vigilant, avoid demonstration areas, and be aware of their surroundings due to extreme violence in some cases.
Costa Rica’s advisory notes frequent petty crimes like pickpocketing and purse snatching, especially targeting tourists during peak seasons (November to May and July to August). The active Poás Volcano, currently under an orange alert, has led to the closure of Poás Volcano National Park. Travelers should monitor local media for updates on the volcano and exercise caution due to frequent property crimes.
