Canada to Face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Opening Match of FIFA World Cup 2026

TORONTO, March 31, 2026 – Canada will open its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina, setting up an intriguing first match on home soil.

Bosnia and Herzegovina secured its place in the tournament after a surprise playoff victory over four-time champions Italy, earning the final spot in Group B. Ranked 69th in the world, the Bosnian side returns to the World Cup for the first time since 2014.

The opening match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina is scheduled for June 12 at Toronto Stadium, marking one of the key fixtures in Canada’s role as co-host of the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico.

Canada will then continue its group-stage matches in Vancouver, where it is set to face Qatar and Switzerland as part of its quest to advance in the expanded 48-team competition.

The 2026 edition of the World Cup will be the largest in history, featuring more teams and matches than ever before, and placing Canada at the centre of global soccer attention.
