Unionized workers at Canada Post will begin voting on a proposed new collective agreement starting Monday, July 21, following a months-long stalemate between the Crown corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. The vote, overseen by the Canada Industrial Relations Board, will run through August 1.
The federal government intervened in the impasse last month, with Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu requesting that the board present Canada Post’s latest offer directly to the workers for a vote. The proposal includes wage increases and structural changes to support a shift toward seven-day-a-week delivery—an initiative Canada Post says is necessary to revive its declining operations.
The union, representing approximately 55,000 postal workers, has urged its members to reject the deal. In protest, it has implemented a nationwide overtime ban while continuing to advocate for a stronger agreement.
