The Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion, and Persons with Disabilities, today announced the launch of Canada’s new Anti-Racism Strategy, titled “Changing Systems, Transforming Lives: Canada’s Anti-Racism Strategy 2024-2028.” This comprehensive strategy represents a significant commitment from the federal government, with an investment of $110.4 million over four years to support over 70 initiatives aimed at dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate racism.
The strategy includes a direct funding of $70 million to communities, empowering local initiatives across the country to create more inclusive and equitable environments in employment, justice, housing, healthcare, and immigration systems. This investment underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that every Canadian, regardless of their identity, has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Minister Khera emphasized that the strategy is not only a financial commitment but also a moral one. “This strategy seeks to change the lives of thousands of Canadians who face the daily realities of racism,” she said. Informed by substantial community input, the strategy takes a whole-of-government approach to eliminate systemic racism and create diverse and inclusive communities.
The Government of Canada has been committed to diversity and inclusion since 2015. Despite the progress made, racism remains an unacceptable reality for many in Canada. The new strategy builds on the foundation laid by the previous strategy from 2019-2022 and aims to make a lasting impact on the systems that govern our society.
