Morales. The discussion focused on expanding economic and trade opportunities between Canada and Colombia, a key bilateral partner and ally.

Colombia is Canada’s third-largest export market in South America, with merchandise exports valued at $1.2 billion in 2023. Canadian direct investment in Colombia reached $13.6 billion in 2022, representing a remarkable 59% increase. These numbers underline the growing economic ties between the two nations and the potential for further collaboration.

“Our meeting highlighted the immense opportunities that exist in emerging sectors such as critical minerals, smart infrastructure, clean-tech, agricultural technology, and information & communications technology (ICT),” said MP Sidhu. “Colombia is not just a trade partner; it’s a vital ally in our efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive economic development.”

MP Sidhu emphasized Canada’s dedication to building a stronger economic partnership with Colombia to harness these emerging sectors, which are crucial for a clean and innovative economy. Discussions also focused on leveraging this partnership to ensure mutual prosperity for both countries.

“It’s always a pleasure to engage with Ambassador Morales and explore pathways for collaboration that benefit workers and businesses in both Canada and Colombia,” said MP Sidhu.
