Peel Regional Police have reported a concerning rise in break-and-enter cases across Mississauga and Brampton, with 122 incidents recorded between September 19 and October 19, 2025. The data reveals that Mississauga accounted for 68 of the cases, while 54 took place in Brampton.
Among the targeted locations, 68 were private homes, nine occurred in apartment buildings, six at retail stores, four at construction sites, three each at schools and residential garages or sheds, and two at restaurants. Other incidents included one each at a pharmacy, gas station, office, and factory, with several others categorized as “other businesses.”
Investigations remain active in the majority of cases — 105 are ongoing, while police have solved nine and listed eight as unsolved as of mid-October.
One case that drew public attention involved a daytime break-in at a Mississauga residence, where homeowners alleged police took over 12 hours to respond. Peel Regional Police Constable Tyler Bell-Morena acknowledged the delay but explained that the incident was reported after the fact, with no suspects on scene, and that it did not require an emergency response. “While such delays are uncommon, they are regrettable, and we recognize how stressful the wait can be for those affected,” he said.
The increase in break-and-enters follows a broader trend of rising property crimes in Peel Region over the past year, heightening community concern about safety and police response times. Police urge residents to remain vigilant, ensure home security systems are active, and promptly report suspicious activity.
