Joseph Vitale, founder and president of Italpasta, has been appointed to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest civilian honour. Established in Brampton in 1989, Italpasta has grown into the fifth largest pasta producer in North America.
Vitale, an Italian immigrant who arrived in Canada in 1953, expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“This honour reflects not only hard work but the cumulative impact of the relationships, partnerships, and experiences I have been blessed to share with my family, colleagues, partners, and friends over the course of my career,” Vitale said.
Through Italpasta and beyond, Vitale has combined his Italian heritage with his Canadian pride, striving to enrich the lives of his community.
Beyond his business accomplishments, Vitale has made significant contributions to Canadian society:
- Early investor in Telelatino, Canada’s first multicultural specialty TV channel.
- Committed $1 million to support a chair in minimally invasive cardiac surgery at the University of Toronto.
- Supported local charities and hospitals through substantial donations.
Vitale is one of 29 appointees to the 2024 Order of Ontario, announced by Lt.-Gov. Edith Dumont.
“The 2024 appointees to the Order of Ontario have enriched the lives of countless people in our province and well beyond,” Dumont stated.
Since its creation in 1986, the Order of Ontario has honoured more than 900 exceptional individuals who have made a lasting impact on the province and the world.
Joseph Vitale’s recognition as a 2024 appointee is a testament to his dedication to excellence, philanthropy, and community. Nominations for the 2025 Order of Ontario remain open until March 31, 2025, inviting others to celebrate outstanding contributions to society.
