Brampton’s Dynamic Duo: Sarkaria and Williams Reappointed to Ford’s Team

Today, Premier Doug Ford reaffirmed his trust in Brampton’s powerhouse pair, reappointing Prabmeet Sarkaria, MPP for Brampton South, as Minister of Transportation, and Charmaine Williams, MPP for Brampton Centre, as Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity within the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. The duo was sworn in at a ceremony at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto on March 19, 2025, reinforcing their roles in Ford’s Progressive Conservative cabinet.

Prabmeet Sarkaria: Driving Ontario Forward
Since his 2018 election, Sarkaria has championed Brampton South, steering the transportation file since 2023 with projects like Highway 413 and expanded GO Train services. A lawyer and son of Punjabi immigrants, he’s committed to cutting congestion and boosting trade corridors. “I’m thrilled to keep Ontario moving—better roads, better transit, better lives,” Sarkaria said, eyeing Brampton’s Hazel McCallion LRT and Peel Memorial’s hospital expansion as priorities.

Charmaine Williams: Empowering Women, Strengthening Communities
Elected in 2022, Williams returns with a mission to uplift women, leveraging her trailblazing tenure as Brampton’s first Black female councillor and Ontario PC cabinet member. Her focus: economic opportunity for Indigenous, racialized, and newcomer women through training and childcare initiatives. “Every woman deserves a shot at success, and I’m here to make it happen,” Williams said, drawing on her 19 years as a therapist to tackle social inequities.

A Vision for Brampton and Ontario
“Prabmeet and Charmaine are Brampton’s backbone in my government,” Ford said. “They’ll deliver jobs, infrastructure, and opportunity while facing down tariff threats head-on.” With U.S. trade tensions brewing, Sarkaria will safeguard supply chains, while Williams aims to bolster half the workforce.

Sukhjinder Kaur, a prominent Brampton community leader and chair of the Punjab Cultural Association, praised the reappointments. “Prabmeet and Charmaine are homegrown heroes who understand our city’s heartbeat,” Kaur said. “Sarkaria’s work on transit gets families home faster, and Williams’ focus on women lifts up our daughters and sisters. Their leadership reflects Brampton’s spirit—diverse, driven, and unstoppable.”

A grassroots organization supporting economic inclusion Women’s Empowerment Association also cheered the news. “Charmaine Williams is a beacon for women like us,” said Director Daind. “Her reappointment, paired with Sarkaria’s transportation wins, means more access to jobs and resources for Brampton’s women and families. We’re thrilled to see them back in action.”

Gian Paul, President of the Mukti Foundation and Chairperson of the Flower City Friends Club FCFC), hailed the duo as transformative leaders. “Prabmeet Sarkaria’s vision for transportation is a lifeline for Brampton’s working families—connecting us to opportunities and each other,” Paul said. “And Charmaine Williams is a powerhouse breaking ceilings for women; her work aligns perfectly with our mission to build resilient, thriving communities. These reappointments are a win for equity and progress.”

Sarkaria and Williams are set to fast-track Peel Memorial’s Phase 2 and enhance Brampton’s connectivity and social fabric. Their reappointments signal a robust agenda for a province—and a city—on the move.
