Brampton’s ActiveAssist Program Expands to Embrace Inclusive Recreation Access

The City of Brampton is making strides in inclusivity by broadening the reach of its subsidy program, ActiveAssist. This initiative aims to break down financial barriers hindering residents’ access to recreational activities. In a new development for this year, subsidy credits under ActiveAssist can now be utilized for drop-in programs and extended to approved family members.

Generously backed by 407 ETR and Capital Power, ActiveAssist is a fee subsidy program designed to support low-income individuals and families in participating in recreation programs.

Each approved applicant is granted a $275 credit, applicable to a diverse range of drop-in and registered recreation programs and services. Participants remain enrolled in the program for a period of two years.

Since its inception in 2013, ActiveAssist has aided over 55,000 individuals and families in accessing recreation programs in Brampton. The city reaffirms its dedication to dismantling financial barriers, ensuring that all residents have access to essential services and programs.

To qualify for ActiveAssist, applicants must provide proof of Brampton residency, demonstrate a total combined family income below the Low Income Cut Off (LICO), and furnish proof of legal responsibility for all dependents listed on the application. Eligible individuals and families can confirm their eligibility and apply online.

Residents of Brampton can apply for ActiveAssist through three convenient methods: online (with required documentation attached), by picking up or dropping off an application form at any Brampton Recreation Centre, or via mail. Mayor Patrick Brown of Brampton expressed, “Today’s announcement marks a significant step forward in our commitment to ensuring all residents of Brampton can access recreation activities. By expanding ActiveAssist to cover drop-in programs, we are breaking down financial barriers and empowering individuals and families to lead active and healthy lifestyles.”

With this enhancement, we can continue to connect more Brampton residents from all walks of life to both registered and drop-in recreation programs.”
