BRAMPTON — With Brampton’s municipal election less than two months away, the City is urging residents to make sure their names are on the Voters’ List and to check where they can cast their ballots before Voting Day on Monday, Oct. 26.
More than 410,000 eligible electors will have the opportunity to choose Brampton’s mayor, city councillors, regional councillors and school board trustees in the 2026 municipal election.
Being registered on the Voters’ List is essential to casting a ballot.
To qualify as a voter, a person must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old on Voting Day. They must also live in Brampton or be the owner or tenant of property in the city, or the spouse of an owner or tenant.
Residents can check their registration, verify or update their information and apply to have their names added to the list through the City’s online voter service.
Online registration and updates will remain available until 5 p.m. on Oct. 17.
After that deadline, eligible residents who discover that they are not properly registered can still make changes in person. They can visit the City Clerk’s Office at Brampton City Hall or complete the required application at an advance voting location or on Voting Day.
Anyone being added to the list or updating their information in person will need acceptable identification showing their name and Brampton address.
The City is also providing an online voting-location tool that allows residents to determine where they can vote during the advance voting period and on election day.
Voter notices are expected to be mailed during the week of Sept. 14.
Residents are encouraged to bring both their voter notice and identification showing their name and Brampton address when voting. However, receiving or bringing a voter notice is not mandatory. Eligible voters can still cast their ballot with acceptable identification.
For people who want to vote before election day, Brampton will offer five advance voting dates: Oct. 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17.
Advance voting locations will operate from noon until 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends.
During advance voting, eligible residents will have additional flexibility because they can cast their ballot at any advance voting location in Brampton rather than being restricted to a location within their ward.
The City is also providing options for residents who may be unable to vote personally.
From Sept. 1 through Oct. 26, eligible voters who cannot vote during advance voting or on Voting Day can appoint another eligible Brampton voter to cast a ballot on their behalf through the proxy-voting process.
A person must be on the Voters’ List, or have been added to it, to vote by proxy.
Special arrangements are also available for eligible voters who are homebound because of illness, injury or disability.
The City’s Home Voting service will operate Oct. 13, 14 and 15. Appointments are limited, meaning residents who require the service should make arrangements in advance.
Voting Day is Monday, Oct. 26, with polls open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
On election day, voters will be permitted to cast their ballots at any voting location within their ward. One location in each ward will also have an accessible voting unit.
With several voting options available, the City is encouraging residents not to wait until the last minute to confirm their registration and voting location.
The municipal election will determine who represents residents at Brampton City Hall and Peel Regional Council, along with the trustees responsible for local school boards.
For a city with approximately 800,000 residents, the decisions made at the municipal level can have a direct impact on everyday services ranging from property taxes, roads and transit to recreation, parks, development and community services.
The first step for residents who want to participate is straightforward: check the Voters’ List now, make sure the information is correct and determine where and when to vote.
Brampton residents can use the City’s official voter portal to check their registration and voting locations at Brampton Voters, while complete election information, including candidates, identification requirements and voting details, is available through Brampton Votes 2026.
