Brampton, ON — The City of Brampton is set to renew its external auditing services contract with KPMG LLP, with a proposed value of $513,900 over three years, according to a new staff report heading to City Council this week.
The current contract with KPMG — which conducts annual audits of the city’s financial statements, accounts, transactions, and local boards — expires on November 20, 2025. The new agreement, if approved, would extend through 2028, ensuring continuity in the city’s independent financial oversight.
The report notes that the city issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) in July 2025, inviting qualified firms to apply for the auditor position. Six firms obtained the RFP documents, but KPMG’s proposal was the only one to surpass Brampton’s 70 per cent minimum evaluation threshold for technical and content criteria, advancing to the pricing stage.
Following evaluation, city staff recommended awarding the renewed contract to KPMG, citing the firm’s strong technical score, competitive pricing, and familiarity with Brampton’s complex municipal financial systems.
“Maintaining an external auditor of this caliber ensures transparency, accountability, and public confidence in how taxpayer dollars are managed,” the report said.
City Council is expected to formally approve the recommendation during Wednesday’s Committee of Council meeting, clearing the way for the new three-year agreement.
The contract’s $513,900 value includes professional auditing services, annual financial reviews, and oversight of city-controlled local boards and subsidiaries.
KPMG has served as Brampton’s external auditor since 2018.
