The City of Brampton, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will host an information session for individuals considering running in the 2026 Municipal Election or registering as third party advertisers. The session is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and will be offered both in person at City Hall Council Chambers, 2 Wellington Street West, and virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Interested participants must register in advance through the Brampton Votes website, with the deadline for registration set for April 17, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. The session will provide a comprehensive overview of candidate and third party advertiser eligibility, roles and responsibilities, the nomination and registration process, campaign finance rules, and important election dates and resources. A recording of the presentation will also be made available on the City’s website following the session.
The session is open to anyone interested in participating in the municipal election process. The candidate nomination period will begin on May 1 and close on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Registration for third party advertisers will also open on May 1 and continue until October 23, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Advance voting will take place on October 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17, with Election Day scheduled for October 26, 2026.
The upcoming municipal election will give more than 400,000 eligible voters in Brampton the opportunity to elect a mayor, city and regional councillors, and school board trustees. As one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, Brampton continues to emphasize civic engagement and participation in local democracy.
