A Brampton-based Sikh activist who recently claimed police warned him of a murder plot has been arrested on multiple weapon-related charges.
Court documents confirm that 36-year-old Inderjeet Singh Gosal was taken into custody by Ontario Provincial Police on September 19, though the OPP has not publicly released details of the case. Gosal appeared in an Oshawa courtroom Monday alongside two others — Arman Singh, 23, of Toronto, and Jagdeep Singh, 41, of New York — who face charges connected to the same investigation.
Just last week, Gosal alleged he was being targeted for his outspoken support of Khalistan, the push for an independent Sikh state. He accused the Indian government of orchestrating plots against him and claimed the RCMP offered him protective services, which he declined.
Gosal is a member of Sikhs for Justice and has close ties to both slain Surrey activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, killed in 2023, and U.S.-based leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who survived a failed assassination attempt. His profile within the Sikh independence movement has grown as accusations of Indian involvement in violence against diaspora leaders have drawn international scrutiny.
This is not Gosal’s first brush with the law. He was charged last November with assault with a weapon following a demonstration outside a Hindu temple in Brampton. In early 2024, his Brampton home was riddled with gunfire in a still-unsolved attack.
Gosal and his associates are due back in court as the high-profile case unfolds.
