Rental prices in Brampton saw a modest decline last month, reflecting a province-wide cooling in Ontario’s housing market where average rents dropped by just over two per cent, according to the latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Urbanation.
In October, the average asking price for a one-bedroom apartment in Brampton fell to $2,009, down $39 from September’s average of $2,048. Two-bedroom units also slipped slightly, decreasing by $21 to $2,388 from $2,409 the previous month. Across all property types, Brampton’s average rent stood at $2,269.
Nationally, rents for apartments dipped by more than one per cent, while Ontario saw a sharper 2.2 per cent decline. British Columbia led the downturn with a 5.8 per cent drop, followed by Alberta at 5.3 per cent. The report also noted that rental rates in Ontario are now 7.5 per cent lower than two years ago.
Among Canadian cities, Brampton ranked 17th on the list of most expensive rental markets, positioned between Halifax at No. 16 with an average rent of $2,289 and Victoria at No. 18 with $2,268.
Across Canada, one-bedroom units saw the steepest annual rent decrease at 3.4 per cent, bringing the national average to $1,822 — roughly $187 less than Brampton’s average. Larger homes remained more stable, with three-bedroom rents holding nearly flat at an average of $2,539, while four-bedroom properties remained the highest at $2,944.
Studio apartments across Canada averaged $1,610 after a 1.5 per cent annual decline, and two-bedroom units averaged $2,200 following a 1.7 per cent dip.
Overall, the report suggests a slight easing in Canada’s rental market, though prices remain historically high — especially in major cities like Brampton where demand continues to outpace supply.
