The City of Brampton has once again earned national recognition for its outstanding financial management, receiving the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
This prestigious award acknowledges municipalities that demonstrate the highest standards in financial transparency, accountability, and clarity. Brampton received the honour for its 2023 Annual Financial Report, which exceeded the benchmarks set by the Public Sector Accounting Board of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada.
The report provided residents with a clear, comprehensive overview of the City’s financial health, reinforcing Brampton’s commitment to openness in governance and responsible fiscal stewardship.
City officials say the recognition reflects a culture of continuous improvement and a strong dedication by City staff to transparent public service.
Mayor Patrick Brown expressed pride in the achievement:
“The City has once again been honoured with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the GFOA. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to financial transparency and accountability. I’m proud of our finance team for delivering such a thorough and accessible report to our residents.”
Chief Administrative Officer Marlon Kallideen also praised staff efforts:
“This award is a clear testament to Brampton’s strong financial management and our ongoing commitment to openness with the community. Congratulations to our dedicated staff who consistently pursue excellence in public reporting.”
The award underscores Brampton’s place among Canada’s leading municipalities in financial governance and public accountability.
