Brampton Plaza Car Rally Ends in Arrest After Race and Foot Chase

A late-night vehicle rally at Trinity Common Mall in Brampton turned chaotic when police moved in to break up dangerous driving and stunt activity, leading to one arrest.

Peel Regional Police said they responded to the plaza near Great Lakes Drive and Bovaird Drive East around 10 p.m. on August 16 after receiving reports of a large gathering of car enthusiasts racing and performing stunts.

Officers arriving on scene spotted a vehicle being driven recklessly and attempted a traffic stop. According to police, the driver tried to evade but was quickly boxed in, avoiding a dangerous pursuit. The suspect then abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested after a brief chase.

Police identified the driver as 21-year-old Ajaypreet Sidhu of Brampton. He now faces multiple charges, including racing a motor vehicle, unnecessary noise, driving without a muffler, obstructing a licence plate, operating a vehicle not in accordance with emission regulations, failing to surrender a licence, creating a public nuisance, and flight from a peace officer. His driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded.

Authorities say officers will continue to monitor plazas across the region, warning that illegal gatherings, stunt driving, fireworks, public drinking, and excessive noise will not be tolerated. Residents can expect an increased police presence at hot spots like Trinity Common Mall in an effort to keep the community safe.
