The City of Brampton has officially opened nominations for the 2025 Citizen Awards, inviting residents to recognize the individuals whose achievements, leadership and service helped strengthen the community over the past year. Nominations are open until January 9, 2026, and the city is encouraging residents to put forward athletes, artists, volunteers and everyday heroes who made a meaningful impact in 2025.
Launched in 1975, the Citizen Awards program honours Bramptonians who reflect the values that define the city’s identity—excellence, compassion, creativity and civic spirit. Each year, the awards shine a spotlight on residents who excel in sports and the arts, contribute to local programs through volunteerism, or demonstrate extraordinary courage and leadership.
This year’s awards will celebrate accomplishments across a wide range of categories, including individual and team sports achievements; the prestigious Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year Award presented in partnership with the Brampton Guardian; the Arts Acclaim Award for creatives recognized locally and beyond; long-term community service; inspirational acts of advocacy or leadership; and the Emergency Services Award of Valour, selected by Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics.
Three Citizen of the Year Awards—for youth, adult and senior recipients—will recognize those who embody the highest standard of community involvement and civic pride.
Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized the importance of recognizing the people who embody the spirit of Brampton. “Brampton’s greatest strength has always been its people,” he said. “Every day, residents across our city give their time, talent and heart to help others. The Citizen Awards are our opportunity to say thank you and celebrate those whose kindness, courage and commitment make Brampton such a special place.”
Chief Administrative Officer Marlon Kallideen echoed this sentiment, noting how the awards highlight the city’s cultural and community vibrancy. “Each year, we’re reminded of how much passion and talent exists in our city,” he said. “I encourage all residents to take a moment to nominate someone who has inspired them in 2025.”
