Nearly three years after the murder of 21-year-old Pawanpreet Kaur at a Mississauga gas station, police are intensifying their search for Dharam Dhaliwal — a Brampton man now listed among Canada’s top 25 most wanted fugitives for 2025.
Kaur was shot and killed on the night of December 3, 2022, while working at a Petro-Canada station at Britannia and Creditview Roads. A customer discovered her suffering from gunshot wounds, and despite emergency efforts, she died at the scene. A former Sheridan College student, Kaur had moved from India and was the sole provider for her parents and two sisters.
Peel Regional Police issued a warrant for Dhaliwal’s arrest shortly after the murder. Investigators believe Dhaliwal, who had been in a previous romantic relationship with Kaur, disappeared in September 2022 — months before the killing — in what police allege was part of a planned attack.
Dhaliwal has evaded capture ever since. He is wanted for murder and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities are warning the public not to approach him. His name has once again appeared on the BOLO (Be On the Look Out) program’s list of Canada’s most wanted fugitives.
Police also believe the crime involved members of Dhaliwal’s family. In April 2023, his brother Pritpal Dhaliwal, 25, and mother Amarjit Dhaliwal, 50, were arrested in Moncton and charged with accessory to murder after the fact.
Kaur’s death was one of at least three suspected femicides of South Asian women in Peel Region in 2022, sparking community concern and renewed calls for stronger protections against gender-based violence.
Police are urging anyone with information on Dhaliwal’s whereabouts to come forward. “Investigators stress that anyone assisting Dhaliwal in evading arrest will face the same charges,” Peel police said.
Tips can be submitted to Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311, or by calling 911 if Dhaliwal is spotted. Anonymous information can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.peelcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a $2,000 reward.
