Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old Brampton man in connection with threats made against Mayor Patrick Brown and members of his family.
According to police, investigators were alerted in late June that the mayor and his family had received threatening communications. As a safety measure, authorities immediately implemented enhanced security protocols while the threats were under investigation.
The suspect was taken into custody on July 15 and charged with one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Police also executed search warrants, seizing electronic devices as part of their investigation.
In a statement released on July 16, Peel police confirmed that they believe the suspect acted alone and poses no ongoing threat to the mayor, his family, or the broader community.
Mayor Patrick Brown addressed the situation publicly, thanking Peel police for their swift action. “We are relieved to learn officers have apprehended an individual who allegedly made threats against us,” he wrote in an online post. “Violence and threats of violence have no place in a democracy. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Brampton, and threats will not deter me from doing the job they elected me to do.”
Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact them at 905-453-2121, extension 2233.
