Brampton Honors Dr. Budhendranauth Doobay for Order of Canada Appointment and Lifelong Contributions

The City of Brampton is proudly recognizing Dr. Budhendranauth Doobay for his recent appointment to the Order of Canada, honoring his extensive contributions to both the medical field and the community. A retired surgeon from Hamilton and a Professor Emeritus at McMaster University, Dr. Doobay was among more than 80 Canadians who received the prestigious honor last month, joining the ranks of notable figures like Avril Lavigne and Tina Keeper.

The Order of Canada is one of the nation’s highest civilian honors, celebrating individuals who have made significant and lasting contributions to the country. During a special reception on Tuesday, Brampton City Council acknowledged Dr. Doobay’s work as an “esteemed heart surgeon, leader, visionary, mentor, teacher, and philanthropist.”

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Doobay has made substantial impacts as a community leader. He is the founder of the Vishnu Mandir temple in Richmond Hill and the Gandhi Memorial Peace Garden, where he promotes the values of Hinduism and advocates for unity in diversity. His philanthropic efforts extend internationally, including fundraising for the Doobay Medical Centre in Guyana, which provides free medical care, including dialysis, to those in need.

In a social media post, the City of Brampton congratulated Dr. Doobay on his “dedication and monumental achievements,” expressing gratitude for his generous contributions to the community.
