Brampton Fire and Emergency Services (BFES) has been equipped with 534 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as part of the Safe Community Project Zero, an initiative spearheaded by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC). This program aims to enhance home safety by distributing over 14,500 alarms across 75 Ontario communities, equipping households with critical early warning systems.
This year, Enbridge Gas contributed $450,000 to the initiative, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to safety. Over the past 16 years, the program has delivered more than 101,000 alarms to fire departments across Ontario, ensuring thousands of residents are better prepared for emergencies.
Properly installed and maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are crucial for early detection of fire or carbon monoxide exposure, offering residents critical time to evacuate safely. Known as “the silent killer,” carbon monoxide is an odourless and toxic gas produced by incomplete combustion of common fuels.
BFES encourages all residents to test their alarms regularly and replace outdated devices to ensure maximum safety. Through their partnership with Enbridge Gas, BFES is proud to support Safe Community Project Zero, empowering Brampton households with essential safety resources.
