Brampton Eyes Affordable Housing Boost with New Inclusionary Zoning Bylaw

Brampton residents will soon have the chance to weigh in on a proposed Inclusionary Zoning bylaw that could bring more affordable housing units to the city’s major transit station areas. The city says the bylaw is designed to encourage mixed-income communities by requiring developers to include affordable units in new projects built near major transit hubs.

A virtual public information session is scheduled for September 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., where participants will get an overview of the proposed bylaw and be able to share feedback to help refine the final draft.

Inclusionary Zoning is a planning tool used to create more equitable housing opportunities in areas where transit investment is significant but market forces alone may not deliver affordable options. The city says adopting the policy will help ensure Brampton grows into a place where residents of all income levels can live, work, and thrive.

Residents must register in advance to attend the session and receive the link. More details and registration information are available on the City of Brampton’s website at www.brampton.ca.
