The City of Brampton is intensifying its efforts to ensure safer rental housing by waiving application fees for its Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) Pilot Program for the remainder of 2025. This initiative aims to encourage landlords to comply with safety regulations, thereby benefiting renters citywide.
Since its inception, the RRL program has licensed 3,227 units across Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7, ensuring adherence to safety standards. The fee waiver is anticipated to simplify the application process, fostering increased participation and enhancing the safety of rental accommodations.
In addition to the fee waiver, the City is launching a program to provide working smoke alarms to new RRL applicants, reinforcing its commitment to tenant safety and compliance with Fire Code regulations.

Quotes
“Throughout the 2025 Budget process, residents made it clear that community safety is their top priority. We are listening and taking swift action by making it easier for landlords to register their units under the Residential Rental Licensing Pilot Program, ensuring renters live in secure, high-quality homes. It is devastating to hear of fire-related tragedies that could have been prevented with functional smoke detectors, and we are proud to introduce a program that ensures all rental properties are equipped with working ones. We remain steadfast in our commitment to working alongside landlords and tenants to build a city where every resident feels protected and at home.”
Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton
