BRAMPTON — The City of Brampton has officially declared September as Tree Month 2025, inviting residents to celebrate the vital role trees play in creating a greener and more resilient community. Sponsored by Alectra and CN, the month-long program will feature free family-friendly events, tree giveaways, and educational activities designed to encourage residents to learn, plant, and care for Brampton’s urban forest.
Highlights include the Tour the Trees Bike Tour on Sept. 7, a Community Tree Planting Event at Gore Meadows on Sept. 27, and a self-guided tree walk through Conservation Drive Park. The popular Residential Tree Giveaway also returns this year, with residents able to register starting Sept. 1 to receive a free tree for their property.
Mayor Patrick Brown called Tree Month an opportunity for residents to make a lasting impact. “With free events, tree giveaways and engaging educational opportunities, we’re empowering our community to be part of a greener, healthier future. Being named a Tree City of the World is a proud moment for Brampton, and it reflects the work we’re doing to protect and grow our urban forest.”
Brampton earned the international Tree City of the World designation in 2024 from the Arbor Day Foundation and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, recognizing its sustainable forest management practices. The city’s One Million Trees Program pledges to plant one million new trees by 2040, supported by the Urban Forest Management Plan.
Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Chair of the Community Services Section, emphasized the role of residents: “Tree Month gives residents hands-on ways to make a difference, whether it’s planting a tree, joining an event, or learning how to care for the ones already growing in our neighbourhoods. Together, we’re shaping a Brampton that’s greener and stronger for generations to come.”
