Brampton Cracks Down on New Year’s Fireworks with Fines Up to $100,000

Residents of Brampton are being warned to think twice before setting off fireworks this New Year’s Eve, as the city enforces its strict ban with potential fines reaching up to $100,000.

In a firm reminder shared across social media, the City of Brampton stated:
“Fireworks are prohibited in Brampton. You are not allowed to use, buy, sell, discharge, display, or possess fireworks.”

While sparklers remain the only permitted traditional firework, any other use or possession of fireworks without proper authorization will result in hefty penalties.

Penalties for Fireworks Violations:

  • Discharging or possessing fireworks without a permit: $500
  • Selling, distributing, or offering fireworks for sale: $1,000
  • Allowing or setting off fireworks on private property without a permit: $500
  • Failing to comply with an order: $1,000

In addition to these fines, offenders may be summoned to court, where fines can range from $500 to a staggering $100,000.

Why the Ban?

The fireworks ban was implemented following the 2022 Diwali celebrations, which generated over 1,000 complaints from residents, prompting the city to take decisive action to address safety concerns and minimize disruptions.

For those seeking a festive celebration, Brampton invites residents to enjoy the city’s official New Year’s Eve fireworks display at Garden Square.

Brampton continues to prioritize public safety and reminds residents that compliance is key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable start to the New Year.
