On Saturday, July 20, Brampton residents came together to celebrate the vibrant local arts scene at the third annual Brampton Summer Artist Market. This year’s market saw a record number of 33 vendors and local arts organizations showcasing their work inside the Rose Brampton lobby, including the debut of the Youth Arts Market.
The event featured a diverse array of handcrafted jewelry, ceramics, book arts, original prints, and paintings, offering visitors a unique opportunity to support local artists and arts organizations. Alongside the beautiful one-of-a-kind artworks, attendees enjoyed family-friendly activities hosted by the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA), a communal cyanotype mural workshop, and a lively steel pan performance.
Organized by the Brampton Arts Organization (BAO), a registered non-profit dedicated to supporting Brampton’s diverse arts, culture, and creative industries, the Summer Artist Market has become a key event in the city’s cultural calendar. The BAO champions local artists through initiatives like the #BramptonArtist campaign and advocates for the growth and recognition of Brampton’s creative community.
Rowena Santos, a Brampton City Councillor, attended the event and expressed her enthusiasm for the growing arts community in the city. “It’s so exciting to see the growth of the #BramptonArtist community in Brampton. Our city has so much creativity, especially among our youth. The passion and talent on display today are truly inspiring. Stay connected with BAO… they run 90 events during the year,” said Santos.
Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, also highlighted the importance of supporting local artists and cultural events in the community. “The Brampton Summer Artist Market is a wonderful showcase of the incredible talent we have in our city. Events like these not only provide a platform for our artists but also bring our community together in celebration of creativity and culture. I’m proud to see Brampton’s arts community thriving,” said Sahota.
With the success of this summer’s market, plans are already underway for a Winter Artist Market in November. In the meantime, Brampton residents can continue to support local artists by visiting the Brampton Farmers’ Market every Saturday, where BAO artists regularly showcase their work.
