BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton has officially kicked off June is Recreation and Parks Month 2025 with a vibrant lineup of free events, new program offerings, and major capital investments aimed at fostering healthy, inclusive, and active communities. This year’s theme, Community Thrives Here, highlights the power of parks and recreation to bring people together, support well-being, and create a sense of belonging for residents of all ages.
In partnership with Parks and Recreation Ontario and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, Brampton is offering a variety of free drop-in programs throughout the month. Residents are encouraged to explore new activities, connect with neighbours, and experience the city’s dynamic recreational offerings by visiting brampton.ca/recmonth.
A special highlight includes the grand reopening of the newly revitalized Balmoral Recreation Centre on Saturday, June 14. The $25 million redevelopment features modernized amenities and expanded accessible infrastructure. The reopening celebration will include guided tours, drop-in activities, giveaways, and remarks from city officials starting at 10 a.m.
On June 21, residents are invited to celebrate International Yoga Day with a free outdoor yoga session at Mount Pleasant Village Square. Admission is free with a non-perishable food donation to support Knights Table, with hopes to surpass last year’s 40-pound food collection.
The City continues to build on its commitment to active living through its Parks and Recreation Master Plan, with a five per cent increase in recreation programming in 2025, targeting 8,000 additional participants. As the first city in Canada to offer free annual recreation memberships to residents 65+, Brampton leads in making health and wellness accessible for older adults.
In addition to Balmoral, several major capital projects are underway, including the Earnscliffe Park Cricket Facility, Century Gardens Youth Hub, and the Howden Recreation Centre and Library Branch. New splash pads and parks are also opening across the city in 2025, increasing access to outdoor amenities and green space.

“Parks and recreation are essential to Brampton’s quality of life,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “With exciting new projects, expanded services, and inclusive programming, we are making real investments that support the health and happiness of every resident. I encourage everyone to get out, get active, and enjoy everything our city has to offer this June.”
“Recreation is about more than activity — it’s about connection, care, and community,” said Regional Councillor Rowena Santos. “From kids discovering new passions to newcomers finding a sense of belonging, every moment matters. Our investments in welcoming, inclusive spaces help build a city where everyone has a chance to thrive.”

Regional Councillor Paul Vicente added, “This month is a celebration of the spaces and programs that bring Brampton to life. Our continued efforts to modernize recreation centres, expand parklands, and offer barrier-free programs reflect our vision of a city where residents of all backgrounds and ages can connect, stay active, and feel proud to call Brampton home.”
With over 4,000 acres of parkland, 425 parks, 600 kilometres of trails, and a growing network of state-of-the-art community centres, Brampton remains committed to delivering inclusive, year-round recreational opportunities for everyone.
