Brampton Celebrates National AccessAbility Week 2025 with Inclusive Programs and a Call for Accessibility Award Nominations

City hosts flag-raising ceremony, free recreation programs, and launches Accessibility Awards to honour local changemakers

The City of Brampton proudly marks National AccessAbility Week (May 25–31) with a week-long celebration of inclusion, barrier-free living, and community leadership. From adaptive recreation programs to a citywide call for nominations for the 2025 Accessibility Awards, Brampton is reaffirming its commitment to building a more inclusive and accessible future.

The week officially kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony at Ken Whillans Square, attended by members of City Council, the Accessibility Advisory Committee, and community advocates. The ceremony signals Brampton’s ongoing dedication to being an accessibility ally and fostering a city where every individual—regardless of ability—can thrive.

“These awards are an opportunity to shine a light on the leaders in our community who are driving meaningful change,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “Brampton is committed to being a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”


Nominate a Local Accessibility Champion

As part of this year’s celebration, the City has opened nominations for the 2025 Accessibility Awards, recognizing individuals, businesses, and organizations making a tangible impact in removing barriers and promoting inclusion.

Nomination Period: May 30 – July 31, 2025

Inclusive Recreation for All: Accessible Recreation Week

Thanks to sponsorship from 407 ETR, the City is offering a variety of free, inclusive recreation programs open to residents of all ages and abilities. Highlights include:

“National AccessAbility Week gives us a chance to reflect on the importance of inclusion and the work still to be done,” said Councillor Rod Power, Council Representative for Brampton’s Accessibility Advisory Committee. “The programs and initiatives we’re offering this year are designed to ensure that every resident, regardless of ability, feels welcomed and supported.”

Brampton continues to invest in inclusive infrastructure and services to ensure that no one is left behind. The City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee plays a vital role in shaping policies that prioritize equity, dignity, and opportunity for residents of all abilities.
