Brampton’s own Blitz have etched their name into Canadian cricket history by clinching the championship title at the first-ever Canada Super 60 tournament, held at Vancouver’s B.C. Place.
The fast-paced league features 90-minute, 10-over matches designed to deliver high-octane action. Originally slated to debut at the CAA Centre in Brampton in July, the tournament was ultimately moved to Vancouver, where six men’s and two women’s teams from across Canada and abroad competed over six intense days.
In a thrilling final, the Brampton Blitz faced the Montreal Royal Tigers and emerged victorious with a commanding eight-wicket win. Canadian international Dilon Heyliger led the charge, as the team combined aggression with disciplined play to seal the title. “They held their nerve under pressure, showcasing a perfect blend of aggression and control,” the team said in a statement.
The path to victory wasn’t easy. Tight finishes, rain delays, and strong opposition tested the Blitz at every stage. Yet the team consistently rose to the challenge, displaying dominance in the group stage, grit in the semi-finals, and flair when it mattered most. “From their early group-stage dominance to the tense semi-final victory, the Blitz displayed the consistency and flair that champions are made of,” the team noted.
As the players lifted the trophy under the stadium lights, the emotions were clear — this was more than just a win. It was a declaration that Brampton is ready to lead Canadian cricket into a new era.
Organized by British-based Star 333 Sports Inc. in partnership with Cricket Canada, the Canada Super 60 marks a milestone for the sport in the country. For Brampton, the victory adds to its growing reputation as Canada’s cricket capital, building on the popularity of the GT20 tournament and significant investments in sports infrastructure across the city.
