Black History and Cultural Museum Leaves Lasting Impression on Mountainash Seniors

On June 21, 2025, Mountainash Seniors Club organized a memorable day trip for its members to Blue Mountain, with a special visit to the Black History and Cultural Museum in Clarksburg, Ontario. The journey began with a cheerful morning departure from Brampton as over 50 seniors boarded the bus for an enriching and joyful excursion.

The group’s first stop was the Black History and Cultural Museum—an important but often overlooked gem of Canadian heritage. This museum, located in the heart of Clarksburg, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of Black Canadians, particularly those who arrived via the Underground Railroad and helped shape the early communities of Ontario. The museum features an impressive collection of artifacts, documents, photographs, and stories that shed light on the lives, struggles, and achievements of Black pioneers in Canada.

The seniors spent time exploring the museum’s exhibits and expressed their appreciation by donating generously to support its continued operation and preservation. “Visiting this museum was a deeply moving experience. It reminds us how diverse and rich Canadian history truly is,” said Mr. Sukhdarshan Kular, a senior executive of the club. “It was a privilege for our members to support and learn from this cultural treasure.”

Following the museum visit, the group continued on to the scenic Blue Mountain Village. Though greeted by light rain, spirits remained high. Members enjoyed the charm of the village, participated in an energetic salsa dance lesson, and brought the essence of Punjab to the mountains with spontaneous performances of traditional Bhangra and Giddha. The lively performances quickly attracted attention and turned into a community celebration, with other visitors joining in. “It was such a joy to see people from all backgrounds dancing with us,” shared Mr. Charanjit Dhillon. “Moments like these create unforgettable memories.”

The club provided complimentary food for all participants, adding warmth and comfort to the damp weather. “Everything was so well-organized. The food, the energy, and the cultural experiences made this a perfect day,” said club member Kartar Singh. “We’re already looking forward to the next trip.”

As the bus returned to Brampton around 7:00 PM, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, gratitude, and renewed bonds of friendship. Mr. Grewal, another executive of the club, extended his heartfelt thanks: “We are proud of our members for making this trip so vibrant and generous. Your enthusiasm is the heartbeat of our club.”

Mountainash Seniors Club continues to inspire with its engaging and inclusive events that bring joy, learning, and unity to our senior community.
